Jake Dixon Emerges as Top Contender for Pramac Yamaha Seat Amidst Rival Tony Arbolino and Moto2 Talent Alonso Lopez

Jake Dixon’s recent triumph at the British Grand Prix has boosted his profile as a potential candidate for the Pramac Yamaha seat, though he faces competition from Moto2 rival Tony Arbolino.

Dixon’s impressive home victory in the Moto2 race last weekend has garnered attention within the paddock, highlighting his compatibility with the Yamaha machinery. Despite this, Dixon currently lacks a direct route to MotoGP.

According to Sky Italia, Tony Arbolino is also in contention for the Pramac Yamaha seat. Sylvain Guintoli commented on the situation, noting that while Arbolino had a challenging start to the season, he is showing improvement. Guintoli also suggested that Miguel Oliveira could be a compelling choice, emphasizing that he would be a sensible addition for the team.

Guintoli praised Dixon’s riding style, comparing it to that of Fabio Quartararo when he transitioned to MotoGP, Guintoli believes Dixon’s style could be beneficial for Yamaha, though he also mentioned that the choice of a younger rider like Dixon could be surprising given the circumstances.

Dixon himself expressed his ambitions regarding a MotoGP move. Reflecting on his journey, he noted, “I started racing when I was 14, and naturally, I’m a bit older when coming to Grand Prix. If I’m meant to go to MotoGP one day, I will. If not, I’m here to try to win a world title.”

The Pramac Yamaha seat is considering Alonso Lopez, another Moto2 talent. Lin Jarvis from Yamaha has acknowledged Lopez’s potential, noting that they view him as a rider of interest and are closely monitoring his career.

Guintoli added that the team might benefit from selecting a rider with less MotoGP experience, drawing a parallel to Pedro Acosta’s recent successful transition. This approach could influence the final decision, making the choice between Dixon, Arbolino, and Lopez a complex one.
