Liverpool are targeting Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad as their top priority for their first major signing under new head coach Arne Slot. The Reds have identified the Euro 2024 winner as a key addition to bolster their midfield, a position that has been a concern since Fabinho’s departure a year ago.
Zubimendi, who has been linked with Arsenal and is also a target for Manchester United, has a €60million (£51.7m) buyout clause. Unlike release clause, a buyout clause requires the full amount to be paid directly to the player or his representatives. Despite the strong interest from Liverpool, securing Zubimendi is not straightforward. The 25-year-old has previously stated his commitment to Real Sociedad, expressing his comfort with his current situation and downplaying any imminent move. During Euro 2024, he told El Diario Vasco: “I’m going to be at Real Sociedad next season. I have a contract with Real Sociedad and that’s where I’m most comfortable.”
