Indian men’s doubles pair Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji will face French opponents Fabien Reboul and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the first round of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Bopanna, currently ranked No. 4 in the world and one-half of the reigning Australian Open champions, is joined by Balaji, who is ranked 65th. Roger-Vasselin is 11th in the ATP Rankings for doubles, while Reboul stands at 34th. Both pairs are unseeded in the men’s doubles event.
Challenging Path Ahead

If Bopanna and Balaji advance past their French opponents, they could face the winner of the match between Daniil Medvedev-Roman Safiullin (neutral athletes) and the second seeds, Kevin Krawietz-Tim Putz (Germany), in the second round.
Sumit Nagal in Men’s Singles
Sumit Nagal, ranked No. 80 in the world, will play against 68th-ranked Corentin Moutet in his opening singles match. Should Nagal advance to the second round, he will face either Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany (world No. 34) or Alex de Minaur of Australia (world No. 6).
Bopanna’s Olympic Journey
The 44-year-old Bopanna will be competing in his third Summer Games. He made his Olympic debut at London 2012, partnering with Mahesh Bhupathi in the men’s doubles and reaching the second round. At Rio 2016, Bopanna and Sania Mirza fell short of a podium finish in the mixed doubles after losing the bronze medal match. Bopanna and Leander Paes played men’s doubles at Rio but lost in the first round. Bopanna did not compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Nagal’s Olympic History
Sumit Nagal made history at Tokyo 2020 by becoming the first Indian to win an Olympic singles match in over 25 years. He achieved this by defeating Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin in the first round. However, his campaign ended in the second round with a loss to then-world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev.
Debut for N Sriram Balaji
The 34-year-old N Sriram Balaji will make his Summer Games debut at the Paris Olympics. He was chosen by Bopanna as his partner.
