Adani and Torrent Compete to Buy Gujarat Titans from CVC

CVC Capital Partners is reportedly planning to sell a majority stake in the IPL franchise Gujarat Titans, valued between $1 billion and $1.5 billion. According to the Economic Times, CVC is negotiating with Adani Group and Torrent Group as potential buyers.

Adani and Torrent Compete to Buy Gujarat Titans from CVC

CVC Capital Partners acquired the majority stake in Gujarat Titans in 2021 for INR 5625 crore, a year before the team’s debut in the IPL. The deal came with a four-year lock-in period, which is about to expire. The BCCI’s regulations prevented CVC from selling the majority stake during this period, which ends in February 2025. Both Adani Group and Torrent Group had previously shown interest in the franchise, with Adani bidding INR 5,100 crore and Torrent INR 4,653 crore.

The Gujarat Titans have enjoyed a notable IPL journey since their debut. Under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, they won the title in their inaugural season in 2022. They followed this success by reaching the final in 2023, though they lost to MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings. In IPL 2024, after Pandya’s move to the Mumbai Indians, Shubman Gill led the team. The Gujarat Titans had a disappointing season, finishing eighth, but they aim to bounce back with a stronger performance in IPL 2025.
