Cory Sandhagen to Clash with Umar Nurmagomedov in UFC Abu Dhabi Main Event on Aug. 3

The highly anticipated bantamweight showdown between Cory Sandhagen and Umar Nurmagomedov is finally set to take place at a UFC Fight Night event in Abu Dhabi on August 3.

Originally scheduled for 2023, the matchup was delayed due to a shoulder injury sustained by Nurmagomedov. In the interim, Sandhagen secured a decisive victory over Rob Font. Further solidifying his position as a top contender in the 135 pound division. Now, they are slated to headline the event in a five-round main-event, marking UFC’s return to Abu Dhabi in August.

The announcement of the matchup and event was made by UFC officials on Monday morning.

Sandhagen, riding a three-fight win streak, is poised for a shot at the championship. His recent triumphs include impressive victories over the likes of Marlon “Chito” Vera and Song Yadong, in addition to his dominant performance against Font last August.

On the other hand, Nurmagomedov has emerged as one of the UFC’s most promising prospects. With an undefeated record of 5-0 in the promotion and boasting a flawless overall record of 17-0, the 28-year-old Russian has garnered significant attention, thanks in part to his association with retired UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov’s most recent victory over Bekzat Almakhan in March showcased his talent and potential. Setting the stage for his toughest challenge yet against Sandhagen in the upcoming main event in Abu Dhabi.

Fans can anticipate an electrifying clash between two formidable competitors as they vie for supremacy in the bantamweight division.
