Hazlewood Assesses Fraser-McGurk and Smith’s Exclusion from T20 World Cup Squad

Australian cricketer Josh Hazlewood believes that Jake Fraser-McGurk’s time to shine in Australian colors will come, despite both him and Steven Smith missing out on selection for the T20 World Cup squad. Hazlewood expressed regret over the absence of Smith’s leadership and experience. Stating that it will be missed in the Caribbean.

Last week, Australia’s selectors omitted both Fraser-McGurk and Smith from the squad, prompting a strong response from the Australian public, particularly regarding Fraser-McGurk’s impressive IPL form.

Hazlewood, along with other non-IPL squad members, gathered in Brisbane for a camp in preparation for the T20 World Cup. He praised Fraser-McGurk’s talent but acknowledged the difficulty in finding a place for him in the team given the depth of talent in the squad.

While sympathizing with Smith’s exclusion, Hazlewood highlighted Smith’s batting skills in spinning conditions and his leadership qualities, which could have been valuable assets.

Hazlewood, who opted out of the IPL this year to be present for the birth of his son, expressed satisfaction in avoiding the bowler’s ordeal in the tournament. He also shared his reservations about the Impact Player rule in the IPL, suggesting it may need adjustments to strike a better balance between bat and ball.

Overall, Hazlewood remains optimistic about Fraser-McGurk’s future inclusion in the team and recognizes the challenges of squad selection in a highly competitive environment.
