In a spectacular display on the fourth day of the third Test between India and England in Rajkot, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his fearless batting, particularly against James Anderson. Jaiswal’s audacious hitting included a hat-trick of sixes off Anderson, reaching a total of 10 sixes in the innings. This achievement marked him as only the second batter in Test cricket history, after New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum, to hit 10 or more sixes in an innings without crossing the 200-run mark.
Jaiswal didn’t stop there, equalling the record for the most sixes in a Test innings, hitting an impressive 12 of them in the same over in which he completed his double hundred. This feat put him on par with Pakistan’s Wasim Akram, who had achieved the same against Zimbabwe in 1996. Although Jaiswal fell short of breaking Akram’s record as India declared their innings, his performance left an indelible mark.
With back-to-back double centuries in consecutive innings, Jaiswal joined the exclusive club of Indian batters achieving this milestone, alongside Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli. At just 22 years old, he became the first Indian to hit 20 or more sixes in a Test series and 10 or more in a Test innings, surpassing records previously held by Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agrawal.
Furthermore, Jaiswal not only broke records for sixes but also established himself as the Indian batter with the fewest innings to reach three 150-plus scores in Test cricket. Surpassing Cheteshwar Pujara, Jaiswal accomplished this milestone in only his 13th innings.
In a remarkable achievement, Jaiswal joined an elite club of players, including Javed Miandad, Brian Lara, and Graeme Smith, who converted each of their first three Test centuries into scores exceeding 150 runs. This further solidified Jaiswal’s status as a rising star in international cricket.
