Bismah Maroof of Pakistan announces international cricket retirement

The curtains have closed on an era in Pakistan women’s cricket with the retirement of one of its most iconic figures, Bismah Maroof. After a glorious 17-year career, Maroof has decided to hang up her boots, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy as the leading run-scorer for Pakistan in both ODIs and T20Is.

Maroof’s cricketing journey began in 2006, marking a historic debut against India in Jaipur. Since then, she has etched her name in the annals of cricketing history with countless remarkable performances and contributions to the sport.

Throughout her illustrious career, Maroof amassed a staggering 3369 runs in 136 ODIs, boasting a healthy average of 29.55. Her prowess with the bat is further reflected in her 21 half-centuries and a career-best score of 99 runs in the ODI format.

Similarly, in the shorter format of the game, Maroof dominated with a total of 2893 runs scored across 140 T20I appearances. Maintaining a consistent average of 27.55, she registered 12 well-constructed fifties in T20Is.

Maroof’s leadership qualities were evident during her stint as captain, where she led the Pakistan women’s cricket team in an impressive 96 matches. This leadership encompassed 62 T20Is and 34 ODIs. Under her guidance, the team secured 16 victories in ODIs and a commendable 27 wins in T20Is.

Announcing her retirement, Maroof expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her family for their unwavering support throughout her cricketing journey. Her retirement signifies the end of an era marked by challenges overcome, victories celebrated, and unforgettable memories created. Bismah Maroof leaves behind an indelible mark on Pakistan women’s cricket, inspiring a generation of female cricketers to come.
