Following the Qatar MotoGP race, Jorge Lorenzo raised questions about the performance discrepancy between himself and Marc Marquez, particularly in terms of top speed.
Despite both riders being on Ducati machinery, Lorenzo noted a noticeable difference in speed, especially in comparison to their teammate Jorge Martin’s bike. Curious about the reasons behind this gap, Lorenzo directly asked Marquez what he believed was causing the issue and what was needed to secure victory.
Expressing his surprise at the speed disparity, Lorenzo pointed out that Marquez seemed to be lacking a few tenths of a second in terms of engine performance. Additionally, he inquired whether the circuit’s characteristics were affecting Marquez, considering his past struggles to secure wins in Qatar.

Marquez, in response, attributed the performance gap not to the bike’s potential but rather to his own errors on track. Acknowledging that Qatar had historically been challenging for him, Marquez admitted that his suboptimal exit from the final corner had cost him crucial time.
Despite making some adjustments to the bike, Marquez acknowledged that he did not feel entirely comfortable with the changes, leading to difficulties in acceleration. Reflecting on his performance, Marquez emphasized the need to manage the fast corners and front tire more effectively in future races.
Ultimately, Marquez accepted responsibility for his performance, acknowledging areas where he needed to improve and expressing a determination to learn from the experience moving forward.
