Ex-Sri Lanka Captain in Hospital After Serious Car Crash

On Thursday, a serious car accident in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, sent former Sri Lankan cricket captain Lahiru Thirimanne to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. Thirimanne’s car collided head-on with a lorry, severely damaging the vehicle.

While details regarding the extent of his injuries haven’t been officially released, reports indicate he is in stable condition. Another passenger in Thirimanne’s car is also receiving medical attention.

This news comes as a shock to the cricketing world. Thirimanne, who retired from international cricket in July 2023, was a well-respected player. He represented Sri Lanka in all three formats – Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. Notably, he was part of the Sri Lankan squad in three T20 World Cup campaigns.

During the accident, Thirimanne, currently playing for the New York Strikers in the Legends Cricket League, was reportedly on a pilgrimage. Following the incident, the New York Strikers franchise released a statement confirming the incident and reassuring fans about Thirimanne’s safety.
