In a remarkable turnaround, Gujarat Giants clinched their first victory in this year’s WPL against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Delhi after four consecutive defeats in Bengaluru. Opting to bat first, Giants capitalized on the change of venue, posting their second highest total in WPL history, courtesy of a monumental opening stand between Laura Wolvaardt and Beth Mooney. Despite a middle-order collapse, Giants set a challenging target, compelling Royal Challengers Bangalore to undertake their highest successful chase in WPL history.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, known for their chasing prowess, appeared well positioned with Sophie Devine’s presence at the crease. However, Devine’s dismissal by left arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar tilted the scales in Gujarat Giants’ favor. Richa Ghosh and Georgia Wareham displayed resilience, but Ash Gardner’s timely breakthrough and the Giants’ astute fielding thwarted their efforts.
Significant milestones marked the Gujarat Giants’ innings as Mooney and Wolvaardt scripted the team’s first century stand, with Wolvaardt also registering the season’s first fifty. Meanwhile, RCB’s Ekta Bisht stirred controversy with her fervent appeals, challenging decisions that ultimately favored Giants. Despite Mooney’s decisive run-out and Wareham’s late onslaught, RCB fell short by 19 runs, emphasizing Giants’ resurgence in the tournament.
