BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed Rohit Sharma’s captaincy for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024, emphasizing Rahul Dravid’s continuity as head coach. This marks Rohit’s second stint leading the team in a T20 World Cup, having captained in 2022. His return to T20Is against Afghanistan suggested his inevitable leadership at the global event, set to take place in the USA and West Indies in June.

Shah highlighted Rohit’s comeback after a hiatus and expressed confidence in his leadership, aiming for India’s triumph in Barbados. While Rohit takes charge for the World Cup, Hardik Pandya remains a long-term captaincy option, according to Shah.
Concerning Virat Kohli’s participation, Shah hinted at discussions to determine his inclusion, following his recent absence due to personal reasons. Shah reiterated BCCI’s support for Kohli’s decisions.
Dravid will continue as the head coach until the T20 World Cup, as confirmed by Shah. Discussions are still happening due to the busy cricket schedule.
On the subject of India’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, Shah emphasized the government’s decision making role, reflecting on the political sensitivities surrounding cricket ties between the two countries.
Addressing player obligations, Shah emphasized the mandatory participation of centrally contracted players in domestic cricket, underscoring the selectors’ prerogative in player assignments and adherence to fitness protocols set by the National Cricket Academy.
