The Gujarat Giants, a Women’s Premier League franchise, has announced the appointment of former Australian cricketer Michael Klinger as their head coach for the upcoming 2024 season. Michael Klinger, known for his success in the Big Bash League, takes over from Rachael Haynes, guiding the team after they finished at the bottom of the points table in 2023.

Michael Klinger, who recently led the Sydney Thunder to a fourth-place finish in the Women’s Big Bash League, will be working alongside former Indian captain Mithali Raj, serving as the team’s mentor and advisor, and Nooshin Al Khadeer, who is the bowling coach.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Michael Klinger acknowledged the potential of the Gujarat Giants in the upcoming season and highlighted the opportunity to collaborate with Mithali Raj and the team to achieve success.
“I am eagerly looking forward to working with cricketing legend Mithali Raj, who has played a transformative role in women’s cricket in India. Together with the Adani Sportsline family, Mithali Raj, and the rest of the team, I hope to take the team to ultimate glory,” said Michael Klinger in a statement.
Michael Klinger brings coaching experience from his time with the Melbourne Renegades in the BBL, and despite previous challenges, he is optimistic about the talented roster at the Giants, which was further strengthened through the WPL auction last year.
Mithali Raj expressed confidence in Klinger’s ability to bring out the best in the Gujarat Giants players, highlighting his well-known expertise with the bat. Moreover, she anticipates success under Klinger’s guidance, eagerly looking forward to the start of the WPL season on February 23. With a positive outlook, she envisions a fruitful collaboration that will propel the team towards achieving their goals. Overall, Mithali Raj’s optimism sets a promising tone for the upcoming season.
