Fringe Test fast bowler Scott Boland suffered an injury scare during Victoria’s Sheffield Shield match against South Australia. Scott Boland, who is vying for a spot in the Australian Test squad, left the field after experiencing pain in his anterior knee/knee tendon while bowling.
The 34-year-old will undergo precautionary MRI scans, but Cricket Victoria remains confident that he will be available to bowl in the second innings. Boland’s potential injury raises concerns about his participation in Australia’s upcoming tour of New Zealand, with the first Test scheduled to begin on February 29 in Wellington.
Boland, known for his heroics in the 2021 Boxing Day Test, took 1 wicket for 33 runs against South Australia before leaving the field. Spinner Todd Murphy stepped in to complete the over in Boland’s absence.
Despite the injury setback, Victoria had a dominant day on the field, skittling South Australia for 173. Mitchell Perry and Xavier Crone were the standout bowlers, finishing with figures of 3 for 43 and 3 for 46, respectively.
In reply, Victoria made a strong start, reaching 71 for 0 by stumps, with openers Nic Maddinson and Marcus Harris at the crease. The team will look to build on their solid position when play resumes.
The injury concern for Boland adds an element of uncertainty to his immediate future, especially with important Test series on the horizon for Australia.
