A non-bailable arrest warrant has been issued against former cricketer Prashant Vaidya in connection with a cheque-bouncing case. The Bajaj Nagar police executed the warrant, revealing nine bounced cheques totaling ₹1.9 crore. Vaidya, who played four ODIs for the Indian team in the mid-1990s, was released on a surety bond after being brought before a court.
The warrant was executed as part of an investigation into Vaidya’s alleged issuance of bounced cheques amounting to ₹1.9 crore. Subsequently, these cheques were related to a steel purchase from a local trader. However, Vaidya, currently heading the cricket development committee at the Vidarbha Cricket Association, reportedly refused to make a fresh payment after the cheques bounced. Consequently, this prompted legal action against him.
Vaidya’s refusal to pay led to the trader seeking legal recourse, resulting in a non-bailable warrant for missing court hearings. Vaidya’s cricket career, spanning four ODIs, showcased his talent with four wickets, while his first-class journey featured 171 scalps in 56 matches.
