Star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, is determined to achieve optimal fitness for the upcoming home Test series against England. The 33-year-old, who missed the recent South Africa series due to an ankle injury, received the prestigious Arjuna Award, the second-highest sporting honor in India, during a ceremony hosted by the sports ministry.

Expressing his focus on maintaining fitness, Shami, a key contributor to India’s ODI World Cup campaign with 24 wickets in seven games, emphasized that his skill is not a concern as long as he stays fit. The cricketer highlighted the significance of upcoming tournaments and series and expressed confidence in his abilities.
Shami is working hard to get better at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) so he can play in the upcoming five-Test series against England, starting on January 25. Even though the BCCI Medical team didn’t approve him, Shami is hopeful about coming back to the field after not playing in the South Africa series.
Acknowledging the honor of the Arjuna Award, Mohammed Shami described it as a dream come true and the culmination of his hard work throughout his cricketing career. With 229 wickets in 64 Tests, the Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer reflected on the role of destiny and emphasized the importance of consistent hard work in achieving success.
