Rishabh Pant displayed a return to his classic form in the IPL 2024 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), leading the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) chase with commendable responsibility. Chasing a daunting target of 273 runs, Pant unleashed his trademark aggression, particularly against Andre Russell, by smashing two consecutive sixes. The first was a textbook whip over deep square leg, followed by another powerful pull shot to the same region.
Pant continued to impress throughout his innings, securing his second consecutive half-century of the season while building a strong partnership of 93 runs with Tristan Stubbs. However, their valiant efforts were ultimately in vain as the Delhi Capitals succumbed to a crushing defeat against Kolkata, falling short by a massive margin of 106 runs.
The high-scoring affair was heavily influenced by Kolkata’s dominant batting performance in the first innings. They compiled a mammoth total of 272/7, marking the second-highest score of IPL 2024 and falling just five runs short of the IPL record. Stellar performances from Sunil Narine, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Andre Russell, and Rinku Singh propelled Kolkata to a formidable total, overshadowing even previous high-scoring encounters in the tournament.
Even though Pant’s knock showcased his talent and potential, it wasn’t enough to overcome the massive target set by KKR. This comprehensive victory solidifies Kolkata’s position at the top of the IPL standings and sets the stage for an exciting upcoming encounter.
