Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming expressed apprehension regarding seamer Deepak Chahar’s injury, stating that the situation “doesn’t look good.” Chahar suffered a potential hamstring injury during CSK’s match against Punjab Kings, forcing him to leave the field after just two deliveries.
While Fleming refrained from providing specific details about Chahar’s injury, it appears to be a concerning setback considering his history with injuries over the past few years. Fleming remains hopeful for a positive report from the team’s medical staff as they assess the extent of Chahar’s injury ahead of crucial IPL fixtures.
Chahar’s absence during the match prompted CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad to utilize Shivam Dube for bowling, albeit with limited success. Fleming acknowledged Dube’s efforts but suggested that his bowling role may be better suited for specific match conditions rather than as a regular option due to the Impact Player rule.
Despite CSK’s defeat to Punjab Kings, Fleming praised English pacer Richard Gleeson for his commendable debut performance. However, CSK faces challenges with injuries affecting their bowling resources, including the absence of Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Deshpande due to various reasons.

Reflecting on CSK’s batting struggles on a challenging Chepauk wicket, Fleming highlighted the difficulty in setting a competitive total while batting first. He credited Punjab Kings’ bowlers for their effectiveness in stifling CSK’s middle-order batsmen.
Fleming also offered insights into Ajinkya Rahane’s batting approach, acknowledging his aggressive intent but emphasizing the importance of adapting to the unpredictable pitch conditions. Despite Rahane’s recent lean patch, Fleming expressed confidence in his abilities and appreciated his positive intent at the crease.
As CSK navigates through injury concerns and tactical adjustments, Fleming remains optimistic about their prospects in the remainder of the IPL season, emphasizing the need for adaptability and resilience in challenging circumstances.
