World number one Jannik Sinner claimed his second Grand Slam title by defeating home favorite Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in the US Open men’s singles final on Sunday, 8 September.

The 23-year-old Italian, who previously won his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open earlier in 2024, became the first Italian man to win the US Open. His impressive season also included reaching the semi-finals at the French Open and the quarter-finals at Wimbledon.
Fritz, aiming to become the first American man to win a major since Andy Roddick’s 2003 US Open victory, started strong but struggled against Jannik Sinner’s dominant performance. Sinner broke Fritz’s serve in the opening game, and despite Fritz leveling the score in the fourth game, Sinner broke again in the seventh and ninth games to take the first set.
In the second set, Jannik Sinner’s confidence and precision shone through as he minimized unforced errors and secured a crucial break in the final game, taking a 2-0 set lead.
The third set saw Fritz rallying with passionate support from the crowd, eventually breaking Sinner’s serve in the sixth game. Despite this, Jannik Sinner quickly recovered and broke Fritz’s serve once more to secure the match and his second Grand Slam title.
Sinner celebrated his victory with a triumphant gesture, capping off a stellar season with a commanding performance in New York.
