Top-seeded Jannik Sinner has officially withdrawn from the Paris Masters, citing a virus that has left him unable to compete. The Italian, who is guaranteed to finish the year as the ATP’s No. 1 player, announced his decision in a message conveyed by tournament organizers.

“I came very early here to prepare, but then I fell sick. I’m currently dealing with a virus, which I expect will pass in the next two to three days. Unfortunately, my body is not ready to compete,” Sinner stated.

His withdrawal marks another blow to the final Masters 1000 event of the year, following the earlier exit of seven-time champion Novak Djokovic.

Sinner’s recent performance has been impressive; earlier this month, he defeated Djokovic in straight sets to clinch the Shanghai Masters title, marking his tour-leading seventh title of the season. This achievement makes Sinner the first player since Andy Murray in 2016 to win more than six titles in a single season.

The victory in Shanghai came after Sinner’s runner-up finish at the China Open in Beijing, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner’s stellar season has unfolded amid the backdrop of an ongoing doping case, which has drawn attention to the player off the court.

As Sinner recovers, the tennis world will be watching closely to see how his season concludes and what lies ahead for the young star.
