Fritz and Gauff Propel U.S. to United Cup Quarterfinals

Top-seeded Americans Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff have successfully led the United States to the United Cup mixed teams quarterfinals. The team secured their spot as Group A winners with commanding performances in Perth.

On Tuesday, Taylor Fritz delivered a dominant 6-3, 6-2 victory over Borna Coric, ensuring the U.S. advanced to the final eight. With this win, the team only needed a single victory in the day’s matches to confirm their place. Coco Gauff faced Donna Vekic later in women’s singles, though the team’s qualification was already sealed. The U.S. began their campaign strongly, defeating Canada in their opening tie.

The quarterfinal lineup in Perth is set, with the U.S. facing China, which advanced as the best runner-up. Group winners Kazakhstan and Germany will also compete for a spot in the semifinals. Matches are scheduled for Wednesday.

Meanwhile, in Sydney, Italy claimed their place in the quarterfinals with a 2-0 lead over France at Ken Rosewall Arena. Flavio Cobolli secured a hard-fought victory over Ugo Humbert, prevailing 6-3, 6-7 (8), 6-2. Jasmine Paolini followed with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 win against Chloe Paquet, clinching the tie for Italy.

Italy’s strong performance comes despite the absence of world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The team previously topped Group D, defeating Switzerland in their opening tie. Winners of the past two Davis Cups and runners-up to the U.S. in the inaugural edition of this season-opening mixed teams event, Italy continues to assert its dominance in team tennis.

The stage is now set for thrilling quarterfinal matchups as the tournament heats up.
