Aryna Sabalenka Dominates in Brisbane, Wins Opening Singles Match

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka kicked off her Brisbane International campaign with a commanding 6-4, 6-0 victory over Mexico’s Renata Zarazua in her opening singles match on Tuesday.

Aryna Sabalenka’s performance was a strong start to the tournament as she dominated the second set, after a more competitive first set. The match took place on Pat Rafter Arena, serving as a warm-up for the highly anticipated men’s singles encounters later in the day, where Australian stars Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic will compete. Kyrgios faced up-and-coming French talent Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, while Djokovic began his tournament with a match against Australian wild card entry Rinky Hijikata.

In addition to their singles matchups, Djokovic and Kyrgios secured a win in their first-round doubles match on Monday, boosting their momentum for the week ahead.

The day also saw Frances Tiafoe triumph over Australian wild card Adam Walton, winning 7-5 (5), 6-3 in an early men’s singles match.

However, An injury withdrawal marred the tournament as world No. 22 and No. 5 seed, Sebastian Korda, had to withdraw due to a lower back injury, leaving the field with one less top contender in the men’s draw.
