Archana Kamath, who represented India in table tennis at the Paris 2024 Olympics, has decided to step away from the sport to focus on her education. The 24-year-old Olympian has chosen to pursue higher education abroad, marking a shift from her table tennis career.

At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Archana was part of the Indian women’s table tennis team that reached the quarter-finals, making history as the first Indian team to advance beyond the round of 16 at the Olympics. Despite India’s campaign ending with a 3-1 loss to Germany, Archana, ranked 122nd, secured a notable victory against world No. 38 Shan Xiaona, earning India its only win in the last eight.
A former national champion, Archana had a promising career in table tennis. She finished fourth at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires and won two women’s doubles titles: the 2021 WTT Contender Lasko with Manika Batra and the 2024 WTT Contender Lagos with Sreeja Akula. In 2022, she achieved a career-high ranking of world No. 4 in women’s doubles alongside Manika Batra.
Archana recently completed her Master’s degree in International Relations, Strategies, and Securities, which motivated her to further her education. Influenced by her brother, who works at NASA in the USA, she is now pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy at the University of Michigan. Archana also holds a bachelor’s degree in economics, reflecting her strong academic background alongside her sporting achievements.
