Shanghai has faced its third consecutive day of rain interruptions at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, forcing a significant reduction in the Monday schedule. The organizers have canceled outdoor play for the day, but matches continue uninterrupted inside the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, which features a retractable roof.
As a result of the weather, all outdoor matches, including the highly anticipated clash between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexandre Muller, along with all doubles matches, have been rescheduled for Tuesday.
The action began under the roof with Taylor Fritz, who completed a hard-fought 7-6(4), 7-6(5) second-round victory over Terence Atmane. This match, which originally began on Saturday, faced a two-day delay due to inclement weather. Following Fritz, fellow Top 10 star Grigor Dimitrov took to the court and triumphed over Zizou Bergs with a scoreline of 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Frances Tiafoe rounded out the afternoon session on Stadium Court with a straight-sets victory against local wild card Yi Zhou, winning 6-2, 6-4. The night session promises exciting matchups, including the highly anticipated clash between 12th seed Holger Rune and Matteo Berrettini, alongside Flavio Cobolli’s encounter with Stan Wawrinka.
To alleviate scheduling pressures, tournament organizers moved four matches indoors after two days of poor weather. Roman Safiullin resumed his second-round match against Alexander Bublik with the score at 2-1 in the first set, eventually defeating the 23rd seed 6-4, 6-2. Other winners indoors included Marcos Giron, who beat Karen Khachanov 6-4, 6-3, David Goffin, who upset Lorenzo Musetti 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-2, and Tallon Griekspoor, who eased past 26th seed Jordan Thompson with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
With the forecast looking more favorable for the upcoming days, fans are eager for a full schedule of tennis action as the tournament progresses.
