Niels Vink of the Netherlands has claimed the gold medal in the men’s quad singles at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, succeeding Australian wheelchair tennis legend Dylan Alcott. On September 5, Vink, the No. 2 seed, delivered a commanding performance against his compatriot Sam Schroder, the top seed, winning decisively with scores of 6-0, 6-1.

The victory came just a day after Vink and Schroder teamed up to win gold in the men’s quad doubles. Vink’s dominance was evident from the start as he broke Schroder’s serve early in the first set, quickly establishing a 2-0 lead. He continued to press his advantage, securing the set in just 31 minutes. In the second set, Schroder managed to break Vink’s serve briefly, but Vink swiftly regained control, breaking back and winning the next four games in a row to clinch the gold.
Earlier in the day, Israel’s Guy Sasson won the bronze medal by defeating Türkiye’s Ahmet Kaplan with scores of 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
Alcott had previously been dominant in this event, winning gold in both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. With wheelchair tennis matches continuing on September 6, fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming men’s and women’s medal matches.
