Britain’s Alfie Hewett emerged victorious in the Australian Open 2025 final, defeating defending champion Tokito Oda to win his 10th Grand Slam wheelchair singles title. The 27-year-old Hewett triumphed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory, avenging recent losses to the Japanese player.

Match Summary:

Despite Oda’s success in last summer’s Paralympic Games, where he clinched gold over Hewett, and his three previous major final victories over the Briton, Hewett dominated the match. The win marks Hewett’s second singles title at the Australian Open and completes a memorable tournament, having already secured a sixth consecutive doubles title alongside partner Gordon Reid.

Player Reactions:

  • Alfie Hewett expressed deep gratitude and emotion after the match, acknowledging Oda’s fierce rivalry. “Tokito, we’ve had so many battles and finals over the last couple of years, so thank you for letting me have this one. To try and beat this guy in a final is an impossible task, it seems, so I am very happy and overwhelmed with emotion to get my hands on this trophy.”
  • Tokito Oda offered his congratulations to Hewett. “Big congrats to Alfie and your team. It’s just the beginning of the year, so I think we have more battles, more finals for this year.”

Hewett’s triumph further strengthens his Grand Slam legacy, adding to his Wimbledon singles title last year, which helped him complete a career Grand Slam.
