Wasim Jaffer Advocates for Kohli and Jaiswal to Open in T20 World Cup

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has voiced his opinion on the batting order for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, suggesting that Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal should open for the Men in Blue.

Scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA from June 1 to 29, the ICC T20 World Cup has garnered significant anticipation. India’s preparations include a warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Expressing his views on his official X account, Jaffer proposed that Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav should bat in the third and fourth positions respectively. He commended Rohit for his adeptness at playing spin.

“In my opinion, Kohli & Jaiswal should open in the World Cup. Rohit & SKY should bat 3 and 4 depending on the start we get. Rohit plays spin really well so batting at 4 shouldn’t be a concern,” Jaffer stated on X.

India will commence their T20 World Cup journey on June 5 against Ireland at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. They have scheduled the much-anticipated encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan for June 9, followed by matches against tournament co-hosts USA on June 12 and Canada on June 15, concluding their Group A fixtures.

As India aims to break their ICC trophy drought, having last clinched the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. The team views the upcoming tournament as significantly important.
Despite several strong performances in various ICC events, including appearances in finals and semifinals across formats. India is yet to secure a major ICC title since 2013.
