The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, which kicks off on October 3 in the UAE, will be the first ICC event to implement the Smart Replay System. This technology has previously been used in the Hundred and IPL 2024.
The tournament will feature at least 28 cameras at every game. Various analytical and visual upgrades will enhance the coverage. The Decision Review System (DRS) will be available for all matches. The Smart Replay System will help the TV umpire review synchronized multi-angle footage for accurate decision-making.

Under this system, the TV umpire will receive inputs directly from two Hawk-Eye operators situated in the same room. They will provide images captured by eight high-speed cameras positioned around the ground. This marks a significant change because the TV broadcast director, who previously served as a middleman between the third umpire and Hawk-Eye operators, will no longer be involved. As a result, the TV umpire will have access to more visual options, including split-screen images.
For stumping referrals, the TV umpire can request split-screen visuals from the Hawk-Eye operators. If a gap is visible when the ball passes the bat, the umpire will directly check the side-on replay for the stumping. The system will also show tri-vision footage, combining side-on and front-on views, providing a clearer picture of bails being dislodged. This will greatly enhance decision accuracy. Hawk-Eye cameras record at approximately 300 frames per second. In contrast, Stump Cam operates at just 50 frames per second.
Additionally, the tournament will maintain an all-female panel of umpires and match officials, continuing from last year’s T20 World Cup.
