Virat Kohli showcased an impressive transformation during IPL 2024, achieving a stellar strike rate of 154.70, his best in a season.

Despite a poor run in the T20 World Cup 2024, Kohli delivered a match-winning performance in the finals against South Africa. His 59-ball 76 led India to a seven-run victory, securing their second T20 World Cup title.
India faced early setbacks, losing three wickets within the first five overs. Kohli’s experience came to the fore as he formed crucial partnerships with Axar Patel and Shivam Dube, helping India post a total of 176/7 in their 20 overs. Following the win, Kohli announced his retirement from T20Is.
Ahead of the World Cup, Kohli had been in exceptional form during IPL 2024, scoring 741 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 154.70. Critics had previously questioned his intent in T20 cricket, particularly in the middle overs. However, Kohli reinvented his batting style, silencing his critics.
RCB head coach Andy Flower praised Kohli for his willingness to adapt his game despite his extensive success. “What a lovely way to exit T20Is. He had a brilliant IPL, showing his capabilities. It’s impressive to see someone in his mid-30s pushing himself to improve further,” Flower told ESPNcricinfo. “It highlights his hunger and desire to excel for himself and his team. Tests and ODIs may be his strong suits, but he has been a brilliant T20 cricketer. It’s been amazing to watch him play, and I hope to see more outstanding performances from him in T20 cricket,” the former Zimbabwe cricketer added.
