Team USA’s Jennifer Valente triumphed in the women’s omnium at the Paris 2024 Olympics on August 11, showcasing her endurance and strategic prowess. Valente, a six-time world champion, successfully defended her gold medal from Tokyo 2020, becoming only the second female rider to win back-to-back Olympic omnium titles, following Great Britain’s Laura Kenny.

“It has been a really long week of racing,” Valente remarked. “To pull it off on the last day, I’m really excited.” She dominated the competition, winning both the scratch race and elimination race, and finishing as runner-up in the tempo race, which positioned her at the top of the points standings heading into the points race. Valente’s strategic race management and confident ride ensured her victory, ending with 144 points to secure her gold.
Poland’s Daria Pikulik claimed the silver medal, marking her country’s first track cycling medal since Munich 1972. Despite less-than-ideal performances earlier, Pikulik excelled in the points race, adding 59 points to her total for a final score of 131 points. She felt thrilled with her performance, especially considering her past success as a junior world champion in the points race.
New Zealand’s Ally Wollaston earned the bronze medal with 125 points. Wollaston was surprised to discover she was in the bronze medal race as the final laps approached. She joined Valente and Pikulik on the podium for the last track cycling event of Paris 2024.
