Romanian rowers Andrei Sebastian Cornea and Marian Florian Enache made a remarkable comeback to win gold in the men’s double sculls final at the Paris 2024 Olympics on August 1. They finished with a time of 6:12.58, overcoming the Dutch duo Melvin Twellaar and Stef Broenink, who had led for most of the race. The victory marked Romania’s second gold of the Games.

The Netherlands secured silver with a time of 6:13.92, while Ireland took bronze with a time of 6:15.17. The Irish team, consisting of Daire Lynch and Philip Doyle, delivered a strong performance to clinch third place.
Following the race, Enache expressed his confidence in their ability to win, stating, “I always knew in my mind that we are the best and we can win this final. I worked a lot for this medal and I believe we deserve it.”
On the other hand, Twellaar from the Netherlands reflected on his satisfaction with winning another silver, having also won a silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He commented, “The silver is really special. Moreover, it’s starting to settle in that this is truly significant. Not everyone can say they have two Olympic silver medals in this challenging boat field.”
