World champion boxer Lovlina Borgohain Paris 2024, who won a bronze medal in the 69kg category at the Tokyo Olympics, lost to China’s Li Qian boxing quarterfinal in the women’s 75kg quarterfinal at the North Paris Arena on Sunday. Li Qian, the Asian Games champion, defeated Borgohain with a 4-1 decision in a closely contested match, ending India boxing campaign Paris 2024 without a medal.

Earlier, India narrowly missed a medal when Nishant Dev Paris 2024 quarterfinal lost 4-1 to Pan American Games champion Marco Verde boxing victory in the 71kg quarterfinal on Saturday night.
In the bout between the eighth-seeded Lovlina Borgohain and top-seeded Li, the fight unfolded as expected. Borgohain, fighting from a distance, used her jabs effectively, but Li Qian’s clean and powerful combinations won her the first round with a split 3-2 decision. Li maintained her dominance in the second round, securing another 3-2 decision despite Borgohain’s efforts. In the final round, Li increased her aggression, convincing four out of five judges.
Lovlina Borgohain, who moved up to 75kg two years ago and achieved significant success with Asian and World titles, expressed disappointment at her early exit. “I fought well and expected to progress. I am sad at the outcome and will analyze where I need to improve,” she said.
Nishant Dev, who initially impressed by winning the first round 4-1 against Verde, was eventually outperformed in the subsequent rounds. Verde’s explosive performance ensured his victory and a place on the podium.
