India’s Manu Bhaker has qualified for her third final at the Paris 2024 Olympics, finishing second in the women’s 25m pistol shooting qualification on Friday. Bhaker, who has already secured two bronze medals in the women’s 10m air pistol and mixed team 10m air pistol events at these Games, achieved a total score of 590 in the qualification round.
Hungary’s Veronika Major topped the qualification with a score of 592, matching the Olympic qualification record set by Jingzing Zhang of the People’s Republic of China at the Rio 2016 Games. Major’s exceptional performance included a perfect 100 in the rapid round and two additional scores of 98.
Bhaker’s qualification journey began with the precision round, where she finished third with a score of 294, having shot 97, 98, and 99 across three series. Despite tying with Major and France’s Camille Jedrzejewski on total points, Bhaker fell into third place due to her lower number of inner 10s.
In the rapid round, Bhaker excelled with a perfect 100 in her first series and scored 98 in the next two series to accumulate her total score of 590. Major’s consistent high scoring in both the precision and rapid rounds ensured her first-place finish.
Indian shooter Esha Singh, also competing in the event, finished 18th with a combined score of 581. Singh was ranked 10th after the precision round but struggled in the rapid round, scoring 290.
The final of the women’s 25m pistol event will take place on Saturday, where Bhaker will aim to add another medal to her impressive tally.
