Miguel Oliveira has revealed that he is in “very positive negotiations” with Yamaha for a potential move to the Pramac MotoGP team in 2025. The five-time MotoGP race winner confirmed these developments ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, shortly after his current team, Trackhouse Aprilia, announced that he would be leaving at the end of the season. Aprilia also revealed the signing of Ai Ogura from Moto2 for the 2025 season.
Oliveira has been linked with the Pramac Yamaha seat for some time, and now it appears that discussions are moving forward. Speaking to motogp.com, Oliveira expressed optimism about the talks, stating, “We are in very positive negotiations with Yamaha for the Pramac seat. Hopefully, in the near future, probably in a few weeks, we will be able to discuss this option a bit more.”
The Pramac Yamaha opportunity is particularly appealing to Oliveira due to the significant improvements Yamaha is making to its bike for the future. The Japanese manufacturer has been focusing on bolstering its capabilities by securing Pramac as a factory-supported satellite team, which would provide more data and development opportunities.
Oliveira emphasized the potential benefits of joining Pramac, noting, “It’s very attractive because the way Yamaha is looking into the future will pay its dividends soon enough. They have a really strong squad of riders, and the key piece they are missing is a solid satellite team with the same spec bikes to accelerate the project.”
If the deal goes through, Jack Miller, who has been in talks with Yamaha as well, could join Oliveira. Before the summer break, Miller faced an uncertain future in MotoGP. Reports now suggest that the team considers him for the Pramac seat to provide an experienced pairing that could help advance the development of Yamaha’s M1.
Yamaha has already secured the services of 2021 world champion Fabio Quartararo and his teammate Alex Rins, both of whom have signed new two-year factory deals that will keep them with the team through 2026. With Oliveira and possibly Miller joining the Pramac squad, Yamaha is positioning itself for a stronger presence on the MotoGP grid in the coming years.
