Marc Marquez has made it clear that his primary focus during the post-San Marino MotoGP Misano test was to refine his current Gresini Ducati GP23 package rather than delve into the developments for the 2025 season.
Marquez, fresh off his third MotoGP victory in just over a week—comprising one Sprint and two full-length races—showcased his prowess in challenging conditions at Misano. His strategic drive enabled him to overtake Pecco Bagnaia, reducing the gap to Jorge Martin in overall standings to 53-points.
While the Ducati Lenovo factory team, which Marquez will join next season, dedicated their efforts to testing the 2025-spec electronics. Marquez chose to concentrate on optimizing his current GP23 bike.
“We focused on the bike we already have, testing some components used in previous races to either confirm or discard them,” Marquez explained to Motorsport. “We experimented with a suspension setup as a precaution, but ultimately. I returned to yesterday’s setup as it was more reliable.”
Despite being a long shot for the title, Marquez remains committed to ending the season strong. He aims to enhance his performance in single-lap qualifying runs, an area where he has struggled this year with only two pole positions and four front-row starts.
“It’s crucial to improve our time attack and race pace. We’ve adjusted the setup slightly, but I’ve reverted to what feels most comfortable for race conditions. My goal for the remaining races is to boost my qualifying performance,” Marquez said.
Regarding the 2025 Michelin tyre, Marquez offered a cautious assessment. While he acknowledged tyre’s stability under braking, he noted it felt ‘very different’ and somewhat cumbersome in the initial laps. “The tyre is stable when braking late, but it felt heavy when first used. There’s room for improvement in its flexibility,” Marquez noted. “In our box, stability under braking is a strong point, so it aligns well with our bike’s characteristics.”
Overall, Marquez’s test session highlighted his strategic approach to refining his current setup while cautiously evaluating future developments.
