Yamaha, like Honda, is capitalizing on the operational and technical advantages granted at the end of last year to support manufacturers in need of performance improvements.
One significant benefit of these concessions is the allowance for race riders to conduct private test days. Limited only by the availability of tires, which has also been expanded.
Another advantage is the ability to continue developing the engine, unlike manufacturers without concessions, whose engine development is frozen.
Since the start of the year, Honda has been actively pursuing an extensive testing program. Scheduling approximately 22 private events, although completion of all is uncertain as concessions will be recalculated during the summer break based on results obtained until then.
Luca Marini of Honda has been making the most of these concessions, recently testing at Jerez to accelerate his adaptation to the RC213V before the Portuguese GP.

Initially, Yamaha was less aggressive in its approach, outlining a roadmap aligned with the European calendar. Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins remained at Portimao after the last race to enhance the bike’s performance. Which has yet to secure a top-five finish in the two rounds held so far.
Yamaha’s engine’s lack of power has been a significant issue in recent years, prompting the engagement of Marmotors. Owned by renowned engine engineer Luca Marmorini. Marmorini, known for his work at Ferrari, Toyota in Formula 1, and Aprilia in MotoGP. Has been brought in to address this challenge.
After finishing seventh at Portimao, Quartararo hinted at the testing of various components the following day but refrained from divulging specifics due to uncertain weather conditions.
Yamaha is introducing a new engine specification, retaining its signature inline four-cylinder configuration. With no immediate plans for a V4 power unit.
However, adverse weather conditions in the Algarve area hampered testing plans. Leading Yamaha technicians to delay fitting the new engine to Quartararo’s bike. Whether the new power unit will be utilized in upcoming races, such as in Austin this weekend, remains to be seen.
