Reports from inside the MotoGP paddock have surfaced, indicating a significant challenge for Joe Roberts in his bid to join MotoGP next season.
The Moto2 standout aims to become the sole American rider in MotoGP, with Aprilia’s satellite team, Trackhouse, seen as a potential landing spot due to its recent rebranding as a US-backed entity.
However, according to insights shared by TNT Sports’ Neil Hodgson, a crucial obstacle has emerged within Trackhouse, centered around team manager Davide Brivio.
“Everything seems aligned except for one pivotal factor,” Hodgson disclosed. “From our investigations and conversations with key figures, it appears Joe faces skepticism from team manager Davide Brivio.”
Hodgson elaborated, “Brivio, renowned for his extensive experience, holds the authority to decide on riders for Trackhouse. He’s assessing Joe and expressing reservations about his suitability for the role.”
“He’s inclined to prioritize more seasoned riders,” Hodgson continued. “For instance, Miguel Oliveira, with five MotoGP victories, is seen as a stronger candidate. There’s also consideration for Jack Miller, currently seeking a team and willing to seize any opportunity.”
“Even established names like Joan Mir and Alex Rins are being mentioned, though their availability remains uncertain,” Hodgson added. “Brivio faces a challenging decision-making process.”
Emphasizing the insider perspective, Hodgson stressed, “This isn’t just my opinion; it’s the inside scoop we’ve gathered.”
In contrast, Sylvain Guintoli, while acknowledging the challenges, expressed support for Roberts’ advancement to MotoGP.
“Yeah, I believe so,” Guintoli affirmed. “Joe has accumulated significant experience, and this season, he’s displayed remarkable performances. If it’s going to happen, now is the time. The potential is certainly there.”
As Roberts navigates this critical juncture in his career, the decision-making process at Trackhouse underscores the complexities and competitive nature of MotoGP team selections.
