Tech3 KTM rider Maverick Vinales made a major leap on the final day of the Buriram MotoGP test, crediting improved braking performance for his step forward on the RC16 🏁.
KTM’s pre-season has been relatively steady, with Pedro Acosta finishing fourth overall for the factory team. However, Vinales and teammate Enea Bastianini have faced a tougher adaptation period on the KTM. Bastianini admitted that his Ducati-honed riding style doesn’t translate well to the RC16 ❌🏍️.
Vinales, however, remains optimistic, saying the learning process takes time but he is making progress 📈.
🔧 What Changed for Vinales?
Vinales jumped to ninth overall, improving his lap time by six tenths, and explained the breakthrough:
🗣️ Vinales: “Today, I was able to strengthen the braking area, and that’s why I made this step. I need to really understand the brakes and how this bike works. The exit is nice, I have grip, but I still need to maximize corner entry—KTM’s strongest point.”
While his race pace looks competitive, he admits he still needs fine-tuning in one-lap speed for qualifying performance ⚡.
“I’m much closer than I was in Sepang, so that’s good.” ✅

The Spaniard is relying on test rider Mika Kallio and new team boss Aki Ajo to help him refine his riding style for the KTM RC16 🔥.
“They keep reminding me of the tricks needed to ride this bike properly. It’s not about belief, confidence, or if the bike is fast—it’s about maximizing its potential, and that takes time.”

Vinales believes he may need three more full test days to fully grasp the KTM’s capabilities before the season opener at Buriram (Feb 28 – March 2) 🏆.
