MotoGP Confirms Rescheduled 2025 Preseason Test at Barcelona

MotoGP has officially confirmed that the first test of the 2025 season will take place in Barcelona, on Tuesday, following the final round of the 2024 campaign.

Typically, MotoGP holds a post-race test immediately after the season finale. This tradition has been in place for most years, except for the 2020 season during the COVID-19 pandemic and in 2021. In recent years, the test has been held at the Valencia circuit. However, this year, the severe flooding in the Valencia region forced the cancellation of the Valencia GP, leading to the rescheduling of the test.

To compensate, MotoGP has organized a replacement event, the Solidarity GP, which will take place this weekend in Barcelona. Despite the venue change, Dorna Sports has confirmed that the official IRTA (International Race Teams’ Association) test will proceed as scheduled on Tuesday, November 19.

The test will run from 10 am to 5 pm local time (9 am to 4 pm GMT), with a 15-minute practice start session planned after the chequered flag.

MotoGP will continue its end-of-season traditions despite the venue shift. The organizers will hold the annual prize-giving ceremony on Sunday after the final race, where they will award the world champion’s trophy to either Jorge Martin or Francesco Bagnaia. Additionally, they will reveal the new MotoGP logo during the ceremony.

This year’s post-race test will feature significant new outings for several high-profile riders. Marc Marquez will make his debut in the factory Ducati garage, testing the GP25 ahead of his 2025 campaign alongside Bagnaia. Jorge Martin, who is currently leading the championship by 24 points over Bagnaia, will ride the factory Aprilia for the first time.

Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini will have their first opportunity to test KTM machinery, while Marco Bezzecchi will try out the Aprilia. Jack Miller will return to Pramac and will test Yamaha machinery for the first time, while his teammate Miguel Oliveira’s participation is uncertain due to a wrist injury sustained during the Indonesian GP. Oliveira has resumed training and could make his return to racing in Barcelona for his final outing with Trackhouse Aprilia.

Rookies Ai Ogura (Trackhouse Aprilia) and Somkiat Chantra (LCR Honda) will get their first experience with MotoGP machinery ahead of their debut season. Fermin Aldeguer, who was set to ride the Gresini Ducati, may also participate, but his involvement is contingent upon his recovery from a wrist injury sustained at the Thai GP.

The Barcelona test marks an exciting preview of the 2025 season, offering fans a glimpse of the future lineup and machinery of MotoGP.
