MotoGP 2024 Calendar Update: Kazakhstan GP Replaced by Second Misano Round

The Kazakhstan Grand Prix has been officially cancelled from the 2024 MotoGP calendar, marking its third postponement since its original inclusion.

Originally slated to debut in 2023, the Sokol event was delayed to July 2024 due to circuit readiness issues. However, subsequent flooding in the area further postponed the race. Despite considerations to replace the cancelled Indian GP in September, uncertainties from local organizers led MotoGP to cancel the Kazakhstan event entirely.

This cancellation, along with the earlier cancellations of the India and Argentina GPs, reduces the calendar to 20 events from the initial 22.

In place of the Kazakhstan GP, MotoGP announced on Monday a second round at Misano. Misano will host the San Marino GP on 6-8 September, followed by the newly named Emilia-Romagna GP on 20-22 September.

Following the realization that the Kazakhstan event could not proceed, Dorna, MotoGP’s organizer. Explored alternatives to maintain a robust 20-event calendar. Initially considering a second visit to Qatar, logistical and climate challenges for September led to the pursuit of alternatives.

Ultimately, Misano emerged as the preferred replacement, balancing logistical considerations with the tight schedule between events. Teams will face a significant logistical challenge preparing for Indonesia’s subsequent event just five days after Misano.
