The recent acquisition of MV Agusta by Pierer Mobility Group, the parent company of KTM, has sparked speculation about the potential for a Marc Marquez MotoGP project with the historic brand.
With Pierer Mobility Group now holding a 50.1% stake in MV Agusta, led by new CEO Hubert Trunkenpolz, who also represents KTM, the stage is set for potential expansion into .
KTM, already fielding four bikes on the 2024 grid, is eager to bolster its presence in the premier class. Talks with existing satellite teams, including VR46, have been underway, and KTM has expressed interest in potentially entering MotoGP with MV Agusta as a separate brand as early as 2027.
MV Agusta boasts a storied history in , having withdrawn in 1976 after numerous riders’ championships. The brand’s brief return in 2019 in Moto2 hinted at its potential resurgence in motorcycle racing.

Should MV Agusta make a comeback in MotoGP, the addition of a star rider like Marc Marquez could elevate the project to new heights. Furthermore, Marquez, currently tied to Ducati for one year, has a future that remains open beyond 2025.
In the past, there have been rumors of KTM’s desire to see Marquez riding for MV Agusta, presenting a compelling marketing opportunity, especially considering their shared sponsorship with Red Bull.
