Jorge Martin’s anticipated move to the factory Ducati team for 2025 MotoGP season was derailed by last-minute change of plans. Leading him to sign with Aprilia instead, a decision he discussed recently.

Initially expected to be Francesco Bagnaia’s teammate, Martin expressed confusion over Ducati’s sudden shift in direction, which saw them sign another rider instead.

“It’s difficult to explain from my side. I spoke with Ducati after Montmelo and everything seemed quite clear,” Martin revealed during the Assen GP weekend. “But on Sunday evening [at Mugello], it wasn’t that clear. Something or someone arrived and changed the idea.”

Martin admitted to feeling frustrated by the uncertainty surrounding his future with Ducati after a prolonged period of negotiations. Despite doubts about joining Ducati, he eventually embraced the turn of events. Suggesting that things unfold as they are meant to.

Looking ahead to his move to Aprilia, Martin expressed optimism about the competitive potential of the bike. Acknowledging it as a significant challenge despite being new to him.

“While I still have half a season left with Ducati, I’m already looking forward to the switch to Aprilia,” Martin commented. “The bike has shown it can compete with Ducati consistently.”

Discussing his future with Aprilia, Martin indicated that preparations are underway to build a competitive team for next season but emphasized his current focus on finishing the remaining races of the season strongly.

“It’s early days, and there’s still a lot to do in the current season. After Valencia, we’ll shift focus to adapting quickly and aiming for wins with Aprilia,” Martin said optimistically.

He highlighted the recent performance of Aprilia’s bike, citing Maverick Vinales’ standout performance in Austin as evidence of its potential. Martin concluded by expressing his eagerness to see how he will fare on the bike in future races.

Martin’s shift from Ducati to Aprilia marks a significant transition in his MotoGP career, with expectations high for his performance in the upcoming seasons.
