Balaton Park to Host Hungary’s Return to MotoGP and WorldSBK in 2025

Hungary is poised to make a thrilling return to the Motorcycle Grand Prix calendar with the newly built Balaton Park circuit. Scheduled to host its first MotoGP event on August 22-24, 2025, this will be Hungary’s first Grand Prix since 1992.

Located near Lake Balaton in western Hungary, Balaton Park is currently undergoing significant upgrades to its track and infrastructure in preparation for its debut. Before the MotoGP race, the circuit will also welcome the WorldSBK Championship, with its inaugural round set for July 25-27, 2025.

Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta expressed enthusiasm about the new addition to the racing calendar: “We’re very happy to announce that Balaton Park will be on the 2025 calendar for both MotoGP and WorldSBK. The circuit is in a spectacular location and will be a fantastic destination for fans to experience the world’s most exciting sport.”

Ezpeleta’s excitement underscores the circuit’s potential to add a significant chapter to Hungary’s rich history in motorcycle racing. The announcement comes as a long-awaited milestone for the region, following decades of speculation and anticipation.

Rumors of a Hungarian Grand Prix have been swirling since the days of Gábor Talmácsi, who won the 125GP championship in 2007. The first indications that Balaton Park might secure an event emerged when MotoGP named it a ‘reserve event’ for the 2024 calendar.

Henrik Hermann, President of the Hungarian Motorsport Association, shared his excitement: “Back in 2004, as President of the Hungarian Motorsport Association, I dreamed of the return of motorcycle Grand Prix racing to Hungary. We have faced many challenges along the way, but we are now closer than ever. We are focusing all our energy on delivering an unforgettable event for our passionate fans.”

Balaton Park’s addition to the 2025 calendar, alongside Brno, highlights the growing interest and expansion of the MotoGP series into new territories.

With these exciting developments, Hungarian motorsport fans have much to look forward to as they prepare to welcome the world’s top motorcycle racing series back to their home soil.
