The intense battle between Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez during Sunday’s Spanish MotoGP took center stage in the latest Crash.net MotoGP podcast.
Bagnaia seized the lead after title leader Jorge Martin’s crash on lap 11 of 25. However, Marquez, after passing Marco Bezzecchi for second, closed in on the reigning double MotoGP champion.
Marquez made two daring attempts to take the lead at Turn 9 in the final stages, but Bagnaia responded forcefully each time, even making contact with Marquez’s shoulder on one occasion as he squeezed past.
Despite Marquez setting the fastest lap on the final lap, Bagnaia secured victory by 0.372s, marking what many consider his best MotoGP win yet.

Marquez’s relentless pursuit, particularly through Turns 7-9, was lauded by social media manager and podcast host Jordan Moreland. “Marquez’s initial move elicited a roar from the crowd, but Bagnaia’s tactical response was commendable,” he remarked.
McLaren observed that Bagnaia’s move at Turn 9 established a precedent for future encounters between Ducati riders. “The contact between Bagnaia and Marquez sets a standard for acceptable aggression, ensuring both riders stay upright,” he explained.
Furthermore, McLaren noted Marquez’s cautious approach, suggesting it might be influenced by his desire for a factory ride. “Marquez showed restraint, possibly considering the implications of aggressive maneuvers on his career aspirations,” he said.
