Former UFC fighter Matt Hamill has made a bold move by suggesting a rematch with heavyweight champion Jon Jones and taking a swipe at UFC CEO Dana White.
Hamill, who holds the only victory over Jones from their 2009 bout, where Jones was disqualified for illegal 12-to-6 elbows, has reacted to recent rule changes by the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) that now legalize the strike. Jones has since requested White to help remove the loss from his record.
In response, Hamill has proposed a rematch to settle the score once and for all. He stated, “Let’s cut to the chase, Dana White—I know you’re keen to give Jon Jones an undefeated record. I see your motives and why you cover for him.”
Hamill offered to fight Jones for the heavyweight title, adding, “If I win, I want a UFC belt. Let me know if Stipe Miocic backs out. I’ll take it on short notice. Just remember, he already lost to me.”
Hamill, who fought 15 times in the octagon with 10 victories, has not competed in the UFC since his 2013 loss to Thiago Silva. However, he has recently secured two wins on the regional circuit, including a split decision victory in April 2018.
