Conor McGregor may delay his highly anticipated UFC comeback longer than originally expected. The Irish superstar, who has not fought since 2021, has been teasing his return for months with hopes to compete again in 2025. However, UFC President Dana White has now indicated that McGregor’s return may not come as soon as many fans had hoped.
Speaking on The Jim Rome Show, Dana White discussed the possibility of rebooking McGregor’s long-discussed fight with Michael Chandler, which they had originally targeted for this year. Dana White stated, “That’s a fun fight. I think Conor and Chandler both like that fight. When Conor comes back, which I see being sometime in the later part of next year, we’ll figure out who faces Conor.”
This comment suggests that McGregor’s return to the octagon is now expected to occur later in 2025, a shift from previous expectations of an earlier comeback. The delay follows McGregor’s 2024 recovery setbacks, including a broken toe that pushed back his planned fight with Chandler. Despite this, Chandler will face Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 on Saturday, while the fight with McGregor remains in limbo.
While McGregor has voiced his intention to return, Dana White acknowledged that McGregor’s massive wealth, accumulated over his illustrious career, could influence the timing of his return. “Money messes everything up,” Dana White said. “We’ll just see how things play out.”
Despite the ongoing delays, Dana White remains confident that McGregor will eventually re-enter the octagon, though when that will happen is still uncertain.
