Following his victorious return to the octagon with a bloody decision win over Drew Dober at UFC Vegas 85, Renato Moicano revealed his calculated plan to secure a fight with the popular Paddy Pimblett. Moicano, who engaged in a verbal exchange with Pimblett on social media, explained his strategic approach during an appearance on The MMA Hour.
Moicano emphasized the importance of playing the long game, stating, “This is chess, not checkers.” Rather than directly targeting Pimblett immediately after his win, Moicano opted for a more indirect approach to bait his potential opponent. By suggesting that Dober should fight Pimblett next and eliciting a response from Pimblett himself, Moicano aimed to create anticipation and intrigue surrounding their potential matchup.
Acknowledging the UFC’s role in protecting certain fighters, Renato Moicano remained tactical in his approach, ensuring that his strategy remained undisclosed. He emphasized the psychological aspect of his callout, aiming to provoke a reaction from Pimblett by indirectly challenging him through social media exchanges.
Despite his victory over Dober marking his first fight in 15 months, Moicano showcased no signs of rust and expressed his readiness to face Pimblett either in Brazil or in Pimblett’s native England. However, he remained aware of Pimblett’s current situation, as Pimblett awaits the birth of his first child in April.
While Moicano has also expressed interest in facing Beneil Dariush, a higher-ranked contender, his primary focus remains on securing a showdown with Pimblett.
