Jimmy Smith didn’t hold back on his thoughts about Ronda Rousey’s recent comments and behavior.
Rousey, 37, has reemerged in the public eye, but her remarks haven’t been well-received by many, including Smith. A decade after suffering her first career loss to Holly Holm, Rousey attributed her downfall to concussions.
She then faced a quick defeat to Amanda Nunes before retiring from MMA and transitioning to professional wrestling in WWE. Smith, a former UFC commentator, didn’t mince words when discussing Rousey’s remarks.
“One of the things I’ve always said about God, he gets all the credit, none of the blame. That’s what Ronda Rousey wants,” Smith stated on Unlocking the Cage. “All the credit none of the blame.
I want credit for all my wins, my losses, I had CTE and all this and all that. I’m the greatest to ever do it. But when it didn’t work, it was so, and so, and so and so, and never me. She never gives credit to the people who actually beat her.”
Smith, 46, known for his measured commentary, didn’t hold back his criticism. He expressed disappointment with Rousey’s backstage behavior, citing unpleasant experiences shared by others.
“If you are listening, the people behind the scenes — camera people, audio people, people you can push around, people you can bully, and the people you can talk down to can’t stand your f****** ass,” Smith exclaimed. “Everybody behind the scenes that had to put a mic on Ronda Rousey couldn’t stand her. … They were cheering when she got knocked out.”
Smith’s candid remarks shed light on the frustrations felt by many behind the scenes, challenging Rousey’s narrative of victimhood. He emphasized the need for accountability and respectful behavior, especially towards those who work behind the scenes.
