Francis Ngannou Affirms MMA Future Amid Boxing Venture: ‘I’m Not Done with MMA

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has reassured fans that his journey in mixed martial arts (MMA) is far from over. Speaking at a press conference in London to promote his upcoming boxing match against Anthony Joshua on March 8, Ngannou affirmed his commitment to return to MMA competition in the future.

While acknowledging his interest in boxing and the upcoming bout, Francis Ngannou emphasized that he still has unfinished business in MMA. He expressed a desire to continue providing exciting fights for MMA fans and acknowledged the pivotal role they played in his career.

Ngannou’s last MMA fight was in January 2022 when he successfully defended the UFC heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane. Following contract disputes with the UFC, he became a free agent and eventually signed with the Professional Fighters League (PFL). Despite joining the PFL as both an executive and a fighter, Ngannou has not yet competed for the organization.

Regarding potential matchups, Ngannou mentioned a preference for a rematch against heavyweight boxing star Tyson Fury, whom he narrowly lost to via split decision in October 2022. Despite expressing interest in facing Jon Jones, who won the vacant UFC heavyweight title in Ngannou’s absence, the Cameroonian fighter prioritized settling the score with Fury.

When asked about choosing between Jones and Fury for his next opponent, Ngannou stated, “Rematch against Fury, because I have a taste of unfinished business. I wasn’t mad after the decision, but I still have this feeling of injustice. When you feel something wasn’t right, wasn’t just, I still have that feeling. I won the fight. I believe that I won the fight.”

Ngannou’s declaration reaffirms his dedication to both MMA and boxing, leaving the door open for future engagements in the octagon.
