CM Punk Reflects on UFC Stint: ‘No Regrets, I Seized the Opportunity

Attending UFC 298 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., Punk spoke with Sportsnet, reflecting on his transition from professional wrestling to mixed martial arts and back again.

CM Punk acknowledged the unexpected nature of his foray into the UFC, stating, “You never say never [in the wrestling business]. Who thought I would’ve ever fought in the UFC? Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White afforded me an opportunity, and I would be kicking myself to this day if I had said no.

Expressing his firm belief in seizing opportunities, Punk emphasized his commitment to pursuing his dreams, regardless of external opinions. “I’m not a guy who lives with regret. I will seize opportunities whether people believe I deserve the opportunities or not. I work hard for my dreams, and I will always chase them,” he asserted.

Reflecting on his return to wrestling, Punk noted that the timing felt right and that he harbors no lingering animosity from his departure from WWE.

Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, participated in two UFC bouts, facing defeats against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September 2016 and Mike Jackson at UFC 225 nearly two years later. The latter result was later overturned to a no-contest due to Jackson’s positive marijuana test.
